The Limits of British Influence: South Asia and the Anglo-American Relationship 1947-1956

Following the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump,  Theresa May  wants   Britain and the United States to renew their special relationship  ‘for this new age’  and ‘lead together again’ in the world. Are such British aims pragmatic? What light does the historical record throw on their chances of success in the twenty-first century?
